Believe it or not, our baby turned 4. I am of course in denial about this sad fact.

I recently read this wonderful little book.  Real Love for Real Life written by Andi Ashworth.  I picked it up at a very awesome event, the Art Music Justice Tour with Charlie Peacock, Sara Groves, Derek Web and a few other musicians that i can not remember.  Anyway, Andi is the wife of Charlie Peacock. Her book was at his table and it spoke to me. I needed it.

It took me a while to get to it, like most things in my life that really deserve more attention. In it she speaks of the importance of making family traditions to show love to them. So often our house only consists of chaos. I feel like we are constantly saying to our kids, “we have to go do this for the church, so we can’t (fill in the blank here)”

I hate it.

How will my kids ever love God if they see Chris and I ignoring them for the church? It’s like that Arcade fire song that says “Working for the church while your family dies”

Today I made PBJ’s and put them in a nice basket and took them out to serve the kids and their friends and Chris while they played soccer in the back yard. I have don’t it a few times before, but never thought of it as a tradition until Juliana told me the other day that she liked when i did it. Maybe that can be a Saturday tradition. Not even expensive. But the love is there.

So many times we have just brushed over chances to have quality time with out kids because we were so busy. I feel so horrible about all the opportunities we have missed to love on our kids.

Months ago, we joked with our friend Dan that if the depression came again he would move in with us. A few weeks ago I was sitting on the bed getting Rocket down for a nap and the strangest thing happened. I got a super clear thought. This is amazing simply because i never have a clear thought. ADD and all. The thought was “this is where Dan will live” .

OK

Sure

Then next evening i walk in to our bedroom and find Chris on the Phone with none other than Dan. I instantly knew what it was about.   You get a weird feeling when you knwo you have heard the voice of God. It almost takes your nees out from under you.

So this weekend, we will begin the adventure of communal living. I always thought it would be when we moved to Jpusa.  God is perfect not me.

The kids are all in one room and that is an issue that is going to need major focus.  We have already taken two car fulls of stuff to the local thrift store. There is many more to go. We have too many toys.  We have to many movies, too many magazines i have been holding on to for over a decade, ect. I am so greatful for the need to purge. And also the chance to decorate a bedroom for me and chris. Seams trivial, but we have never had a bedroom that we liked.

I scored a gallon of beautiful paint called Rain Dance(blue) from Lowes for 5 clams. We got a wall of bookshelves too. I went to Urban Outfitters and got a rug and some coverlets. I am so excited. Our new room is smaller but so much nicer.

this Christmas was great. I had learned to hat i while working for a church, but this year we managed to preserve sanity and feel God’s presence in it. I did not kill myself crafting, but what I did was awesome!

the decorating has been done, and it is the best yet. Stars are from world Market and the tree is a few years old. I made an advent wreath with votives and some pine branches from the yard. We are doing the Jesse Tree advent reading every night with the kids.
Now if i could find a leg lamp it would all be in order!

We went to Disney World with Chris’ parents this past weekend. I have a hard time with Disney as a corporation. I was able to get bast the ickyness and enjoy the fun time with my family. That is what it is all about. Riding a speeder with the kids through the forest to find the Ewoks.

rocket promptly asked for his train set out of the garage to play with this morning. Once all breakfast was eaten and cleaned up, out came the trains and he spent about an hour playing quietly by him self. these wonderful times of peace are few and far between and I had to get it on (fake)film. he had such a good time.
